The 2025 edition of our Unity Game Programming course is now available! We are still finishing up some elements later in the course, but those elements will be transparently updated before students reach them. See the UPDATE STATUS section below for the current status.

AVAILABILITY

As of 7/27/2025:

  • All public/private school teachers who click on "Add Course" from their CompuScholar dashboard will receive a copy of the updated 2025 edition.
  • Classrooms that are auto-rostered through Clever or ClassLink after that date will also receive the new course.
  • Schools who are integrating our course material into Canvas, Schoology, or similar systems must contact your CompuScholar CSR to receive a new course cartridge.
  • Homeschool & Individual families using personal subscriptions - please visit our corresponding Homeschool news bulletin for details.

Unity classrooms created in our system before 7/27/2025 are not updated. Please contact us to discuss migrating your students to the new course, if desired.

UPDATE STATUS

All course elements are complete, with updates to the following resources:

  • All "Lesson Text" pages
  • All "Teacher Guide" pages
  • All lesson quizzes, chapter tests, and corresponding answer keys
  • All Activity Instructions and Activity Solution Guides
  • All Activity rubrics, starter files, and solution files
  • All Instructional Videos for all chapters
  • All lesson "Work with Me" exercises

WHAT HAS CHANGED?

Unity releases new versions of the Unity Editor frequently, and in this update, we have migrated all course materials to Unity Version 6.1 (6000.1.1f1). All students are required to use this version as a minimum, though they can install later releases as they become available at their discretion.

As part of this comprehensive update, we have reviewed and updated the following elements (where relevant):

  • Lesson text pages (new screenshots, descriptions, etc.)
  • Lesson text "Work-With-Me" exercises (new screenshots, descriptions, and v6.1 project files)
  • Lesson instructional videos
  • Lesson teacher guides
  • Activity Instructions and Activity Solution Guides
  • Recreated all "starter" and "solution" projects using Unity 6.1
  • Quizzes, tests, and answer key PDFs
  • Activity rubrics

The syllabus and pattern of chapters, lessons, content, and skills remains unchanged; we have simply ensured the course now natively supports the current version of the Unity environment. In some cases, this means a new way of doing things (e.g. replacing the old Input Manager with the new Input System or supporting Visual Studio Code as an option alongside Visual Studio Community). But the course is otherwise fundamentally the same experience.
